November 7th- Scope, its a perpective like anything else. If you remove the middle of a novel, is it still a story to be read. Think about it. How many games out there youplay for 8 to 12 hours and thats it. Hey not bad, 10 bucks a hour for entertainment on a game you arnt going to play through again. Heavenly Sword, 8 hours? Someone beat Metal Gear Solid 4 in 3 hours.. yah. Sad. Are we looking there? No. Scope. Its not what you think it is.
October 21- Ah to be a year older, with my 32nd Bday over and done with, I sent out my request for my christmas presents. I feel the chill of snow in the air as winter begins to creep into autumn, with the first frost on the pumkin, its only a foreshadowing of the best season of the year.. thats right christmas :)
October 8th- Its almost Thanksgiving here in Canada. Its sometimes funny coming from a American traditional background, thr upside is 2 sets of pumpkin pies, 2 sets of turkey and gravy. Happy Thanksgiving to Canada.
October 2nd- Wow, it seems that time just flys, we have made some official submissions, we will see what comes up?
September 20th- Dont have time? Dont want to help anymore. do the right thing. Be honest. We are looking forward to the the October IRC and we are hoping the FCS commitee will like what they see.
September 5th- Progress is the name of the game. Slowly but steadily like the Tortorise and the Hare.
August 27th- View points are like portholes, if you leave them open, knowledge and fresh air flows in. But if you submerge it underwater, you will drown. Take time to observe other Viewpoints before you realise your drowning.
August 20th- Wow, Things are looking up, We had a positive turn out at our IGDA. We have had a few interesting turns of events that have relieved some of my fears and raised a few hopes for the future. We will keep you all informed of any spectacular changes.
August 10th- Hey, how goes, it lots of silence around other areas. We have been working hard. Vics been making some good strides. Earning his keep. We have alot of stuff being corridinated. so Far schedules are holding. Barely. But even the best laid plans of mice and men. I want to thank everyone thats been working hard. The team is doing as well as can be expected.
July 30th- We have official made our peace with the contest. Thank all of your for your support during the long process. We are now, prepared to move on to what else needs to be done. No more waiting around, no more limbo. We have a plan, we have a goal. I do want to say that I do not feel any shame or guilt for my comments. They had to be said and will not be further endorsed. We have some nice stuff coming up. And I will be transfering the entire contest htmls here, in a nice compact file link For those that have missed it. We will be continuing our weekly blog as well. You will see a new Blog labeled Development show up for just that, leaving this area for my month Leader blog, where i vent some feelings. But you guys will see some new items. Hopefully we will see some forum improvements soon as well.
July 6th- We have made some great strides, this month. We have taken some time off for holidays then its back to coding. our Cg artist did a great job on our latest Cg concepts, paving the way for the next set of milestones. I personally have spent the month finishing up some much needed loot table and pages of datablocks. Folks, next time you play a rpg, count the number of items, and thank the programmers for their hard work. We are still waiting on the verdict, which i made a post about, but we are still waiting on a holding pattern. We are hoping that the judges see Fantasci for its success that it can be, when compared to other games. We are making huge success in our content, milestones and models. We have about 90% of our primary functionality in and working, with 3 major milestones left. We are almost ready for the content push. Which most of us will enjoy throughly as we spend days on days translating draft to pages and pages of dialog and script code.
June5th- Progress, progress, progress. That is the name of the game. Every day a little more gets done. Kittle and Mark are slicing away into the code base. We have been also working to wrap up all the level creation work. with some 60+ levels to create, populate and debug, its a fun but daunting task. We have alot of high hopes that we will meet our current milestone plan ahead of time, which would be great. Our team is great!!
May20th- Alright, Back from Keycon, cleaned my email box, started a new contract, and caught up with what i needed to do, You know what ticks me off the most.. I forgot to take a single picture. Camera was at my side but i got to talking and just kinda missed the timing to get that started. But that and competing against the masquarde wasnt too smart. But the second night was really good. We have plans already for next year. With a year to finish our game and complete the entire game setup. We are looking for a release year by next Keycon. Those that were there. Look for us all year long. Were going to light this candle and rock and roll all year long.
May 14th- We prepare for Keycon, We have lots going on, many things to print, we plan to take some footage of the entire Presentation. We have 2 one hour presentation scheduled. Saturday May 17th at 8pm central and Sunday at 8pm in case someone misses the first one. We have great hopes that we can both attract a great amount of interest and a few additional artists and programmers. Local Talent is a huge part of Winnipeg tradition. I hope to add to that a little with Fantasci. With a few canadians already on our roster, we know things are just going to get better and more promising for us. I will be doing another Larger post on our weekly blog at www.mydreamrpg.com possibly tommorow or Friday morning. Hope to see you at KEYCON!!!
May 5th- Things keep moving in our favor, with the addition of our second main programmer signed on. We are move quickly ahead to finish up the alpha development. With only 2-3 major milestones to kill. The rest is finishing up the storyline elements and then its to the content, polish and debug stage. We are moving nicely to the place our team wants to be. And we have now have the programming resources to make that dream a reality in a much less time period. Remember our task were based on time, rather then able to do. 1 person meant 1 year, 2 person 9 months and so forth. Thats the beauty of a team. We are planning on KeyCon in two weeks. We are excited to see some of you that can make it. We have some Players Manuals writen up as well as a bunch of promo disks with our OST already burned. And we have a comic that the first part will be ready asap.
April 19th- We are coming to the end of a contest and the beginning of a world of oppurtunity. Even though we dont know who has won the contest, we are still hopeful that things will progress well. With Inventory, merchants, and the begins of Dialogue were starting to see the begins of a storyline that players can understand and we must tell folks that this game isnt a game that can be told as a single game. It is huge, i am talking 3 games huge, So heres the deal. When Fantasci gets completed, you will see the announcement of the 2nd one, which promises to be bigger better and best of all more player options. Alot of folks still think that im jumping the gun a bit, but in actuality, I have been planning these from the beginning, i just had to create a realistic battle plan to create the entire story arc. With a comic coming and a bunch of other possiblities, including our companies official founding we have alot of moving forward, at a pleasant and rapid pace.
March 14- Updates, the story grows
Well, its time for our first update, i have to give some of the larger companies credit, getting updates out on time and without too many errors, is definitly a test of wits and skills. But we have survived the launch, this next update tommorow, the final organization of the game into from a visual demo to its game mode really makes things start cooking. We have inventory working now, we just have a few small items to work out. And that will be working at full speed, very shortly. I cant wait. You know a year ago when i started this process, i had a few nay sayers, and you know I almost feel sorry for those folks. I suppose time and such is always a factor when doing this job. I as person set off to complete this contest and in the process, i found a career. Yes, this is my job. How do i know. Maybe becuase i spend 60 hours a week on project management and game design for Fantasci, or i take time to monitor websites to keep up with daily news. Or maybe its when i have dinner watching gaming news on G4 for my break. Obsessive. No, im a Gamer at heart, making games be they Pen and paper or a computer game they are pretty much the same in my eyes, they just take a little longer. We have been gearing up behind the scenes. We hope to have something big to announce in the coming month.
Febuary27th- Its the Final Countdown
We are feverishly cleaning up our mess. We have had a rough time the last 2 weeks, between our lead programmer leaving us in a bad spot, and discovering that apparently the word integritiy is in short supply among alot of folks. We have powered through. Of course, It meant we broke a few things.. namely our AI, we plan to have our player selection system working shortly, and we have our ai on the mends, it just wasnt ready for the launch. So what you will be getting is a uninterrupted tour of all 7 of the levels. We have left a few levels out, simply becuase we were not finished with them. Its a daunting task trying to get levels lit properly, debugged and optimized when you have such a large number to do.
I mentioned earlier about the short supply of integrity, We had planned to have a fully integrated manual with some great artwork, in fact up until about 2 weeks ago we were expecting that to be done. What we got was yet again another person, that cant deliver a product after months of excuses. You know, i dont know if its becuase we are indies, or if its becuase of my inexperience, but you would figure that if a person sets up a meeting with you, and talks about doing stuff, you would maybe communicate with that person, follow whats going on. But no, what i gather happens is they find themselves sitting like the average 14 year old in front of a xbox/ps3/WoW console and dont have a clue what actually completing a honest days work. Also Ill say this, the loss of our programmer, was a blow at the worst possible time, that really really disappoints me. But we have recovered and are making progress. We have 2 great new programmers, both have done more active programming in the dbs and such in the last 2 weeks then we have i think in the last 11 months. We are looking for more folks with integrity. Know anyone?
Febuary20th - Countdown to infinity
Well, as we approach the contest first entry date, we have been working overtime to complete the daunting task of finishing the areas that need work. We have promised a lot. We intend to deliver alot as well. Having our first alpha out there is like taking a beta , stripping the skin off and being judged on it. We have alot of work to do after the contest. With our recent loss of our lead programmer, i have had to make some tough decisions. We are moving ahead. I have inlisted the help of Mark Dynna, well renouned for his work on several games, including Visions. We have a long way to go yet. The contest material probably consists of less then a 1/10th of the actual planned content to be found within the full version game. We are working to provide a good cross section within this demo so that folks can see the vision i have. Its such a wide scope, i hear alot of folks naysaying. Most dont know me from my roleplaying epics. I have made my players cry at the closing areas of the campiagn when one of the main storyline characters sacrificed himself. I am a storyteller first at heart, a bard of sorts. I love to entertain folks. Fantasci is a extention of that storytelling. I hope that we win. It means alot of things will happen for this team, sooner then later.
January16th -
A Wonderful world. We are getting alot of the last bit of levels worked up and cleaned up. Almost ready to get some Ai work all squared away. So much to do, its like playing with a bowl of spagetti sometimes. We have alot of positive comments that we hope will add to alot of the end game tally. We have had some concern about what the end of the contest will bring. But as some say it will bring what it will bring. We have heard alot of predictions. Some ranging from not so good, to some that could mean some very positive lucritive stuff for our team.
January1st - A fresh start
Greetings, Folks. Its a new year, its a fresh start. We want to give Fantasci a fresh look, and give folks a place to update with us. This is where we will be posting some of our blogs. Probably going to be weekly, in conjunction with the Mydreamrpg blog. Only this blog will be dedicated to more person opinions and some of the inside workings of my and my teams minds. We hope that we can make this website blog one of good reading, and provide wonderful insight into our development.
We thank you our fans for making our game popular.
